Vision
Where are we going? A plan for Woolwich residents, the township and communities within that form the ground work for future growth. Great communities are not made by accident, they are planned for.
Community
Check the ego at the door. The role of local politician is to solve problems and improve the lives of our constituents. Politicians work with staff and it is always a team effort to better our communities.
Competence
Knowing things and knowing what you don't know. This job is an on-going learning experience. I'm always learning about how to improve. I seek out people with experience and expertise to help in any given situations.
Awareness
Social, Self and Situational I've grown in my role as a local politician these past eight years. I attribute my growth to knowing myself and constant self-assessment. I'm adaptable to change and able to make connections both informational and one-on-one.
Leadership
Imagination
Solution-based approach A lot of times government is prescriptive in its approach to decision-making. That often comes to a head with issues that can't be defined through the established practice. Thinking beyond this framework to honour the intent and put into practice requires thinking differently.
Communication
Inspiration and the why. Motivating people to work towards common goals is part of the job. Expressing the reasoning in deliberate, straight-forward approach builds trust in the community.
Action
If nothing changes, nothing changes. How we govern locally should be an evolution with every decision and project completed. We build on our experiences (good and bad) and develop and re-develop our processes from what we learn.
Responsibility
Own it. Even the best information available doesn't mean every decision turns out the way you expected. When it happens you own the decision. Period.
